Sophia's birhtstory: (It's a little long and you don't have to read it all)
Sophia Sybille is here (which you all probably knew by now). She was born on September 13 at 4:20 in the morning. I had some contractions on Saturday night but they went away when I went to bed. Sunday came and Colin finished his last to-do thing before baby, installing the car seat base. We joked that she was waiting for us to finish what we were supposed to before she came. My last job was to make the crib and that involved a last minute washing of the mattress pad. I did some walking that day and we even walked around Kmart to have something to do. When we came home I finished making the bed and not much later, I started having contractions, so she really was waiting for me to be ready! They came fairly frequently to start with but weren’t too painful, I sat on our rotating desk chair and that actually helped. Colin came home from work around 10 p.m. and I sent him right back out to go and get gas in the car cause it was empty. The contractions kept coming but weren’t super consistent yet, even though I knew they were the real thing. My parents went to bed and Colin hooked up our DVD player in our bedroom while I took a nice, warm shower. We watched two episodes of Heroes and the contractions almost felt as if they were slowing down. We finally decided to try and get some sleep at 1 a.m. but I was unable to sleep. At 2 I woke Colin up and told him it was time to go to the hospital. We got our things ready and headed out the door. It was kind of a nice drive there because there was absolutely no traffic. The contractions were definitely hurting by now and I’d squeeze Colin’s had to get through them. We got to the hospital and I was able to walk in, but of course they had to as a bunch of questions before getting me checked in. At three the nurse checked me for the first time and I was at 5 cm, so she told me that we were going to have a baby, oh duh! We got our room (room 113 the very same room Xander was born in) and the midwife arrived. It was just the three of us in the room and we just talked, it was kind of nice, other than the contractions that kept coming. At 4 she asked if I wanted her to break my water but I asked her to check and see how far along I was before doing it. The plan was to get in the tub after she broke my water, which never happened. She checked me and I was almost completely dilated so she went ahead and broke my water. I went straight to a 10 and she called in the nurse and the others who needed to be there. 3 pushes later and Sophia was out! At 8 lbs 5 oz she was heavier than Xander but about 1 ½ inches shorter at 19 inches. The midwife placed her on my chest right away and they only took her away for a few minutes to check her out before returning her to me. I just laid there and enjoyed my new little daughter! The birth was actually a great experience and I’m so glad I was able to do it completely drug free, I didn’t even need an IV for fluids. She’s absolutely beautiful!
We called our parents to let them know that Sophia was now here but decided to let everyone else sleep a little longer. Colin pulled out the couch and got some sleep but I was having a hard time letting go of my little princess. The pediatrician came around 8 that morning so they rolled Sophia out to the nursery and I got some sleep. Finally I got up and got cleaned up. I felt good so I decided this was a good time to go see Sophia in the nursery and see her get her first bath. The walk there went well but I started getting dizzy. I had time to sit down on a chair before I fainted, and the next thing I know I’m smelling some disgusting ammonia. It sure helped wake me up. The nurse rolled me to my room and I got some more sleep, and it felt really good. Xander was the first family member to see his baby sister after lunch and after that everyone else came.
